Miracle Miles 2012
On Saturday September 22nd we had 117 runners, walkers, and crawlers invade Downtown Orlando. 5k, 15k, Kids run, it didn't matter, we were so abundant that race officials told me they always saw a member of Team Tin Man on their radar.
From what I was told by a couple friends, there were no zombies behind them to cause the crowd of people in front of them to run so fast. But everyone gave it a go and as a result, some of you were sore, beaten, battered on Sunday. That's what 5 or 15 Canadian miles will do to our bodies. In the end, everyone can agree, it was all worth it.
On top of all of our race participants, we had an unbelievable amount of donors. In all, 45 friends and family members from around the country donated to the the team. The outpouring was un-freaking-real. Our grand total was $16,229. Best by almost $13,000. The overall total raised for the NICU was $54,848.
It was only a year ago that Nicole and I were pacing each day, unsure of how Holden would be at this point. There were so many unanswered questions back then, and while they all weren't answered right away, Holden's days in the NICU developed such a confidence in Orlando Health, that it has carried through to each of his 3 operations, his subsequent hospital stays, his doctors visits, and to this cause.
On Saturday, Holden(with the assistance of Nicole), crossed the finish line on his own feet. It was a fitting display of how well he's doing.
Team Tin Man united, and we once again did it in style.
We are so excited that everyone came together to join us in supporting something that really means so much to us.
A special thank you to:
Mirus Ventures, UniMed360, and The Spine and Scoliosis Center for making the shirts a reality. My aunt, Patricia Durfee, for the unbelievable design.
Finnhenry's Public House for allowing us to host our Happy Hour fundraiser at their place.
To the gals who spent several hours organizing and putting on an amazing garage sale that raised $1700 for the team.
The family and friends who traveled from as far as Maryland and Massachusetts, and as close as Miami, Gainesville, and St. Pete to join us this weekend.
And most importantly, YOU! Whether you ran, donated, and/or just showed up to support the team. It was awesome.
If you like chili, Team Tin Man will be at the the Orlando Chili Cookoff on 2/9/2013 serving up some of the finest chili tasting gruel you've ever laid your tongue on.
We'll be back next year!
Thank you so much,
Trey, Nicole, and Holden Flynn
